I’m currently completing a branding exercise and have been asked to think about why I am running my direct sales business. If you are in business why do you do what you d

What is your background?

I grew up in a household where it was the norm to believe that anything is possible. My Father was an entrepreneur and when we said that we wanted to do something he never thought we couldn’t do it..he just asked us ‘how’ we would do it. My early influences were very creative and when people say ‘you think outside the box’ I never really thought there was a box at all!!

After completing my degree I became a secondary school teacher which is a whole other story..or novel! I left the teaching profession 20 years ago while expecting my eldest daughter and have been working for myself ever since. I first came across Direct Sales and the then termed MLM business model over 25 years ago. I then looked at it again to run alongside my own successful International company in 2009. In 2014 I found a company that felt like home.

What didn’t you like about your background?

Working for myself has proven to me that I am adaptable and resourceful. It has shown me that I love working my own diary and taking a day off when I want to. All these things are impossible when you work for someone else. I love the freedom this affords me and the flexibility. I didn’t like the rules of being in a profession but I can still have my passion for education through training and workshops for people within this business. I love working with people and helping them develop. Through my own business this was also possible but the ‘buck stopped with me’. I have no support.

What is the solution you found?

Having started with Mialisia I have found the solution to the parts of my working life I didn’t like. The main point of having no support is gone. I am working for myself but not by myself. There is an infrastructure of other Artists and a very supportive corporate team. This means that I don’t have to do everything! For example, promotional materials are created, administrational papers are all provided. Most importantly there is always someone there to answer any of my questions.

How do you feel about the future?

The future is looking very bright. I am acutely aware that due to the nature of my own business and my health that it is not something that I will be able to physically do forever..especially as I intend to travel. However my Mialisia and Youngevity business can grow via word of mouth, the internet and social media. This means that my business can grow while I am on the move or sat on the beach, regardless of my physical ability or location. It is a will-able business so I am growing a legacy to leave my family and to be able to improve the lives of those around me. I see a future of fun times, family and friends in my flip flops… Heaven!
